Once successful, Wally had fallen into debt and tried to blackmail associates over missing money—leading to his murder. This killing is later connected to a 1993 cold case: the execution-style murder of drug dealer Joseph Gaja in Vancouver. Rookie cold case cop Lee Bergerman reopens the Gaja case and identifies Mickey Smith as a suspect, possibly motivated by a rumored affair between Gaja and Smith’s wife.
